Richard Friedman Memorial Scholarship
When Professor Richard Friedman died in 1997, the Department of Economics at Cal State Northridge established a memorial award in his name. Rick was always the friend of students in need. For this reason, we thought he would be most honored by an award to a student who had overcome significant adversity (personal, health, financial, family, and political).
The Department of Economics gives a cash award of $150 in the fall and spring semester to the economics major who has overcome significant odds in getting his or her education — the Richard Friedman Memorial Award. Rick was a great professor and friend to us all.
The only requirement is that you have completed five upper division economics classes at CSUN (current semester classes do not count). To apply, fill out the application below. The award is given out at the Economics Department’s annual Awards Assembly.
NOTE: Must submit current Degree Progress Report (DPR), Resume (one-page), and a two to three-page double-spaced personal statement that describes obstacles you have overcome in order to study Economics at CSUN. In your essay, explain your story as best you can. Your essay will be kept confidential. Email your documents to the Economics Department Chair, Dr. Anton Lowenberg, at anton.lowenberg@csun.edu.
